Agent-based dynamic modelling of forest ecosystems at the Warra LTER Site

چکیده

The simulation model was built using an agentbased modelling approach. The approach builds a virtual landscape ecosystem and simulates how the various components of the forest ecosystem fit together and interact with each other. Fire is the main disturbance source in the succession of the eucalypt forest ecosystem in this area and plays a critical role in the process of patterning the forested landscape. The emergent patterns from the simulation are in accord with the succession theory for the type of the forested ecosystem being modelled. Fuel dynamics are the main contributing factors to the definition of the fire regime of the forest ecosystems, and study of fuels in relation to topographic features is needed to further improve the simulation result.

Evolution of a Multisite Network Information System: The LTER Information Management Paradigm

urban watershed, coastal estuary, eastern deciduous forest, tropical rain forest, tallgrass prairie—these are just a few of the ecosystems represented in the 24 sites of the Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network (Franklin et al. 1990). By combining information from the diverse ecosystems represented in the LTER network, participants have a unique opportunity for large-scale investigation...

Dynamic, Rule-based Quality Control Framework for Real-time Sensor Data

Software developed at the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER Site (GCE Data Toolbox for MATLAB) has proven very effective for quality control of both real-time and legacy data, as well as interactive analysis during post processing and synthesis. This poster describes the dynamic, rule-based quality control framework provided by this software and illustrates how it can be used for both automated a...

Stochastic Dynamic Programming with Markov Chains for Optimal Sustainable Control of the Forest Sector with Continuous Cover Forestry

We present a stochastic dynamic programming approach with Markov chains for optimal control of the forest sector. The forest is managed via continuous cover forestry and the complete system is sustainable. Forest industry production, logistic solutions and harvest levels are optimized based on the sequentially revealed states of the markets. Adaptive full system optimization is necessary for co...

Modelling and Decision-making on Deteriorating Production Systems using Stochastic Dynamic Programming Approach

This study aimed at presenting a method for formulating optimal production, repair and replacement policies. The system was based on the production rate of defective parts and machine repairs and then was set up to optimize maintenance activities and related costs. The machine is either repaired or replaced. The machine is changed completely in the replacement process, but the productio...
